blue swirlUpgrading to a weekly or monthly ticket

Passengers who want to buy weekly or monthly tickets at unattended QR stations or whose first trip is on a bus or ferry, should purchase a single ticket from a ticket vending machine or onboard the bus or ferry. The cost of the single ticket can then be deducted from the cost of a weekly or monthly ticket at attended QR stations or from QR ticket agents.

Weekly or monthly tickets must be purchased on the same day and at the single ticket's destination. In addition, the:
  • weekly or monthly ticket must have the same number of zones as the single ticket, or include the same zones travelled through using the single ticket
  • the single ticket zones cannot be greater than the weekly or monthly tickets zones

For example, a customer with a:
  • single zone 2-2 ticket can upgrade to a weekly or monthly zone 1-3 ticket
  • single zone 2-3 ticket can upgrade to a weekly or monthly zone 1-4 ticket
  • single zone 3-3 ticket can update to a weekly or monthly zone 3-3 ticket
  • single zone 1-2 ticket cannot upgrade to a weekly or monthly zone 1-1 ticket
  • single zone 2-4 ticket cannot upgrade to a weekly or monthly zone 1-2 ticket.

Calculating the number of zones travelled

To calculate the number of zones you travel in on your journey subtract the lowest zone you will be travelling in from the highest zone, then add one - this formula calculates the correct number of zones you will be using.

For example, if you are travelling from Morayfield (zone 8) to Strathpine (zone 5), you are travelling through four zones (8-5+1 = 4).
