Construction of this 1.05 kilometre section is due to start in mid-2009 for completion by early 2012.

This section will connect the existing South East Busway at Buranda with Coorparoo via Stones Corner with 560 metres of tunnel and 490 metres of surface busway. A busway station will be built at Stones Corner with a premium bus stop at Langlands Park that protects for a future busway station.

Site investigations

Local residents and business operators can expect to see project team members out and about in the project corridor over the coming weeks and months. They will be performing a range of technical surveys and investigations in Buranda, Stones Corner and Coorparoo which will build on the work undertaken in the planning phase and give us more information about geotechnical and environmental conditions to help inform the project’s design and construction. Give us a call on 1800 550 277 if you would like any further information.

Property resumptions

Formal property resumptions between Buranda and Cavendish Road are expected to start in early 2009, with the issuing of Notices of Intention to Resume. From this point, it is generally a six month process before resumptions are finalised. Queensland Transport has been corresponding with these owners for some time and all owners are aware of property requirements.

Benefits of this section

  • cuts up to eight minutes off bus trips through the most congested section of Old Cleveland Road, saving regular commuters from Coorparoo to Brisbane City nearly 1.5 hours in travel time per week
  • bypasses four sets of traffic lights and the heavily-congested Logan Road/O'Keefe Street roundabout at Buranda
  • by 2016, it will carry 7000 passengers in the morning peak (to carry the same number of passengers by car, you would have to build two extra traffic lanes along Old Cleveland Road).
